Active Shooter Square was trampled on at the Barclays Center on Sunday morning

An active shooter was trampled underfoot at the Barclays Center as he was leaving a boxing match on Sunday morning.

The boxing match between Gervonta Davis and Rolando Romero was over, and the spectators were leaving at around 1am when a loud noise startled the crowd. Fearing an active shooter, people started running for cover.

ABC7 The report said that 18 people were injured in the stampede. Several were taken to local hospitals for treatment.

Several high-profile people were present for the fight, including a crowd of about 19,000. One of the attendees was tennis star Naomi Osaka, who tweeted that she had to hide in a room behind closed doors.

“I was just at the Barclays Center and all of a sudden I heard screams and saw people running, then we were shouting that there was an active shooter and we had to enter a room and close the door, I was a very scary person,” he wrote.

Footage spread on social media shows panicked crowds trying to get out of the field. Other photos show lost shoes and hats, as well as broken glass

The incident comes as people are on high alert following the shootings at Rob Elementary School in Uvalade, Texas and at a Tops grocery store in Buffalo, New York.
