According to Reuters, two separate cases have been filed against Chauvin. John Pope and Joe Code confronted a former police officer in 2017 about an aggressive incident. Seven other Minneapolis police officers have also been named in the case, but it is no coincidence that Chauvin’s past has been caught with him.
The pope and the code’s attorney called the incident “reprehensible” in a statement.
“It is simply reprehensible that three years before Derek Chuvin assassinated George Floyd, he used the same and other deadly tactics on John and Joar, unchecked and uncontrolled by his fellow officers and MPD supervisors.”
Pope and Code Attorney Bob Bennett said, “We will not stop seeking justice for serial killer Derek Chauvin and the MPD officers who failed to intervene, and hold all those in power accountable for allowing and enabling this kind of deadly, racist act.” Behavior must continue. “
In Pope’s case, he was 14 when Chauvin allegedly entered his bedroom during a domestic disturbance call. He ran to the pope and “hit him more than once on the head with a large flashlight.”
In separate incidents of code, he was handcuffed, and Chauvin pressed his head to the ground and pinned him using his knees, similar to the way he handed it to George Floyd.
The good news in these cases is that both incidents have been captured on body camera footage.
Chauvin is currently serving 22- and 22-year sentences following Floyd’s murder, which shocked the nation. He pleaded guilty in federal court and was responsible for Floyd’s death, denying him his constitutional rights and causing “physical injury and death.”
