I was obsessed with lip plumpers in high school. I was in my mid-30s, so in the beginning there was everything about DuPont’s Leap Venom. Since then, brands like Two Faced, Lipstick Queen and Boxom have come up with their own temporary lip plumping gloss. (All very well, BTW.) When a new Sephora hit and sold out quickly, I knew I had to try it. Dr. Lara Devgan’s Platinum Lip Plump has a really great review on TickTock and Instagram but it’s not the only reason I had to get my hands on this Magic-in-A-Tube.
I have to thank my mom for this one. He sent me to Dr. Lara Devgan’s Instagram a year ago to follow this board-certified plastic surgeon from NYC. Somehow with Manhattan practice and six children (!), Dr. Devgan was able to launch a medical-grade skincare — which just hit the Sephora. So if you can’t go to her office for a little nip, baldness and injection, you can at least use her products. These include Peptide Eye Cream (21 215 in Sephora), Hyaluronic Serum (24 245 in Sephora) and Vitamin C + B + E Ferrulic Serum (ফ 145 in Sephora) which is a fantastic price but still have 5-star reviews. Oh, and those platinum lip thickeners.

What attracted me to Plumping Gloss is how it not only makes the lips look fuller but also protects the skin with a broad-spectrum UVA / UVB SPF 30, as well as a mixed molecular weight hyaluronic acid and ceramide. These two ingredients hydrate and nourish the lips and enhance softness. But what actually plumps Lips? Well, OG lip plumpers that don’t have irritators burn like hell that had cinnamon and menthol. Instead, Dr. Devgan uses niacin (vitamin B3) to gently vasodilate lip tissue, turning them pink.

Now, I have no lips to work with. I don’t mind the shape of my lips but they are definitely on the thin side. Lip injections are great but I’ve always been a little older than a baby to get them. The first thing I noticed about Platinum Lip Plump is that it feels hydrating like a non-sticky thin gel. I applied a generous amount to my lips, going beyond the lip line even though the instruction doesn’t tell you. (I’m a rebel.) About a minute later, the clang began. It’s not as intense as the former lip plumpers but it has. Although it is fully manageable.
About two minutes later, my lips were definitely full and looked a little pink.

I tested them in a different light, and was quite impressed with the results.

The only downside to Platinum Lip Plump is that it makes me want to get a lip injection for real. More than just the subtle, natural look. In the meantime, I’ll apply it whenever I want a little boost.
