A Coweta County judge has convicted a man of what he called “the worst child molestation case he has ever seen.”
Darrell Allen Grant was sentenced to five consecutive life sentences and 60 years in prison for four counts of child molestation, one count of seducing a child for obscene purposes, one count of an exciting sex battery and three counts of child molestation.
Newton police investigated Grant in 2018 when a child told a friend – who then told a school counselor – that Grant had been abusing the child for six years.
The investigation determined that other children had witnessed Grant’s victim abuse there. After a delay during the COVID-19 epidemic, the case finally went to trial, with two more victims found. All three testified against Grant.
Coweta County District Attorney John Cranford Jr. praised the witnesses for their courage and for their courage in exposing the abuse.
“These victims have been through years of torture and four more years of waiting for justice, and they have finally received the recognition and justice they deserve,” Cranford said.
The victims were not identified, and it is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post.
